Come and visit Pyrenees House for a tailor made activity or fitness holiday in France. It can be as relaxed or extreme as you want it to be with a wide range of activities on offer. Owen, who holds a Masters in Applied Sport and Exercise Science will create a personalised training session for you each morning or lead you on a guided walk/cycle or hike. The afternoons will then consist of a choice of unforgettable activities. Examples of activities available this summer are canyoning, kayaking, rafting, abseiling, climbing, cycling, hiking, caving, horse riding, accrobranche and mountain biking.

We have three available packages: Get Fit, Gold Activity and Silver Activity.

The Get Fit Package is for those of you who have a serious objective. Maybe you want to lose weight for a special event, kick-start a new healthy lifestyle or add muscle? You will receive a personalised training plan for the week which will involve morning training sessions followed by cycling, kayaking, hiking or running in the afternoon. You will also receive a free medium and long term plan to take home along with ongoing support by email or Skype. An example day on the Get Fit Package could look like this:

Morning
Enjoy a nutritious breakfast in the garden, following a stretching and flexibility session, made with fresh produce from the local farms and bakeries.

After your food has settled, we’d dive right in with a high-intensity interval session (designed to burn high amounts of fat in the shortest possible time), followed by fresh juice and healthy snacks.

Lunch
Enjoy a healthy and nutritious homemade meal before an afternoon activity, which could be hiking, running, cycling or kayaking, with beautiful views of the Pyrenees mountains in the backdrop.

Evening
The evening is yours to explore the local town and sample French cuisine or simply enjoy a bbq with a glass of wine as the sun sets over the mountains.

The special introductory Gold Package is aimed at those of you want a great value active holiday with an emphasis on enjoyment and excitement. It includes, a guided walk/cycle/hike each morning, five specialised activities each afternoon, breakfast, lunch and seven nights accommodation in a double room with private bathroom and a large garden overlooking the Pyrenees. Only a 10% deposit is required to reserve your place.

An example day could include, an Al Fresco breakfast in the garden made with produce from the local farms and bakery, followed by a guided walk with mountain and river views. After a healthy and nutritious lunch, you could be kayaking down the Ariege River or riding a horse along mountain trails. In the evening, you could try some French cuisine in a local restaurant or watch the sun set over the mountains with a glass of wine and barbecue in the garden.

The Silver Package includes all of the above, but with specialised activities on three selected afternoons. This will give you even more time to discover the beautiful region of Ariege or to take a day trip to the Mediterranean beaches.

The following is an example gold package itinerary made for a 45yr old active male who enjoys walking and cycling at a low intensity. However, all itineraries will be personalised to you. Gentle guided walk to stretch the legs. 1.4km along the Ariege River. The signboards discuss the relationship between the Ariege people and their river.

with oxygen-aventure. This is a 9km(1hr 30) descent finishing in the beautiful town of Foix. It is necessary to be able to swim 25m. Difficulty 2/5. Time taken 3hrs including travel and instruction.

CastleI recommend a visit to the castle followed by a walk around the cobbled streets to choose your location for dinner.
Accrobranche– Climb and zip line among trees up to 30m high in complete safety. A unique and unforgettable activity.  Horse Riding (2hours) If you wish to make it a half day this is possible. You will receive an authentic visit to the local mountains.You’ll follow the shepherds’ paths, cross large beautiful forests, visit some lovely waterfalls, observe wildlife and wander along the high altitude grazing pastures.

 

After all the activity on this busy day I recommend another meal and a glass of wine in Foix to help with your recovery!
Cycle along the greenway from the town of Lavelanet to the beautiful medieval town of Mirepoix (38km flat).

 

Visit the famous market at Mirepoix where I will be waiting to buy you lunch in one of the many fantastic restaurants overlooking the market.

 

Have a swim and ease your muscles in a Jacuzzi at Parc Neptunia in Pamiers. Open until 20.00.

Take some time to visit the local town of Pamiers and have dinner in one of the many restaurants.
I will transport you and a bike so that you can cycle the beautiful greenway from St Girons to Foix (42km). Mostly flat. Visit the most famous market in Ariege at St Girons and pick up some souvenirs of your visit before I return you to Pyrenees House. Have a bbq using your produce from the market.
Your legs may be a bit heavy by this stage so I recommend a session of stretching with me in preparation for your last big activity!

You will go down the Aude River with a reinforced wetsuit, flippers, and a large foam float on which you can rest your arms and upper body. A qualified instructor will ensure your complete safety.

 

I recommend a walk around the town of Quillan and dinner in a restaurant that looks over the river Aude.
